Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Although I was not familiar with this hymn, I felt as if it were chosen just for me this morning. It is always emotional for me when I can finally come to church after I’ve been away in times of adversity. And I was emotional this morning. Just as it started to become difficult for me to sit on the hard wooden pew any longer, my friend balled up her shawl and handed it to me to put behind my back. As Mother Teresa said, “Small things with great love.”
“You touch us through our faithful friends”. I will not have any trouble finding what to write about in my gratitude journal tonight.
Hymn 617
We come to you for healing, Lord,
of body, mind, and soul,
and pray that by your Spirit’s touch
we may again be whole.
As once you walked through ancient streets
and reached toward those in pain,
we know you come among us still
with power to heal again.
You touch us through physicians’ skills,
through nurses’ gifts of care,
and through the love of faithful friends
who lift our lives in prayer.
Through nights of pain and wakefulness,
through days when strength runs low,
grant us your gift of patience, Lord,
your calming peace to know.
We come to you, O loving Lord,
in our distress and pain,
in trust that through our nights and days
your grace will heal, sustain.
