Imagine if you were on a hunt for the Great Stag. You along with others have chased the Great Stag on horse back for what seems like a long time. When suddenly you see a flash of something off the path. You leave the others and chase this flash you see in the woods. It is easier to follow as it comes into view quite often. Finally, you corner it. It is NOT the Great Stag but only a rabbit, and a skinny rabbit at that.
Beware! There are skinny rabbits all around you. They can lure you away from anything worthy. Chasing a skinny rabbit does worse than get you off track; it will lead you further and further down the path that will drain the very life from you – killing your excitement, your creativity, your drive.
A skinny rabbit is anything that pulls you away from a path of purpose and leads you into a forest of separation, exhaustion, and even the death of a dream, relationship, or chance to reach God’s best. When pursuing anything, we need to ask, “Is this a skinny rabbit?”
John Trent suggests that one way we can find an answer to this question is by listening to Psalm 46:10. “Be still and know that I am God.” Make a “be still” appointment to be still for 7 minutes every day. When we get in His presence our perspective changes. Our vision changes.
