Reflecting on the Songs of the Season,
Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Atlanta

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace,
sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent Night with Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McEntire
Christmas Eve has always felt magical to me. Growing up, my family and I would attend the latest church service. At my home church we would light our candles and sing “Silent Night” together while the pastor would recite John 1: 1-18. As we would drive home, there was hardly anyone on the road. It was such a change from what we would always experience on the way: horns honking, traffic, and lots of red lights. It always reminds me this line from "Silent Night:" All is calm and all is bright" and it would echo in my head.
Simple words. Soothing. For now in this moment, everything felt peaceful before the excitement and rush of Christmas morning with presents. The holiday season can be crazy as well as lots of stress about work, school, and what else may be going on around us in our world. So it’s nice to take a few moments to breathe from all of the chaos. As my sisters and I have gotten older, we still try to attend this service all together.
There is still something so calming and breathtaking about this moment. Being with everyone, singing together, and preparing for the excitement of Christmas morning. All is calm, all is bright.
Gracious God,
As we prepare and are in the midst of a busy holiday season, help us to remember to take a few moments and breathe. In these chaos and what can be stressful times, we know that you are there with us and we know where to find our peace.
Amen.
